Nous avons tourné ce film à Budapest au mois d’octobre 2018, invité par Gábor Pintér de Parallel Art Foundation qui s’occupe de faire vivre les liens entre danse et cinéma en créant des échanges internationaux entre la Hongrie et l’international. En collaboration avec dix danseurs, danseuses et chorégraphes nous avons parcouru la ville de jour et de nuit, pour choisir ensemble des lieux où chacun et chacune a proposé une improvisation dansée spontanée. Le film s’est tissé grâce à la matière sonore fournie par la ville de Budapest, à son mouvement. Ce travail s’inscrit dans un contexte de grande inquiétude pour l’avenir du secteur culturel, en particulier du spectacle vivant dans le pays. Que va t’-il advenir de la vitalité et de la force que nous avons trouvé en collaborant avec les danseurs, comment aborder l’avenir ? Overground est ainsi à la fois le portrait d’une ville par ceux qui en sont la force créatrice et la capture d’un moment donné, d’une vitalité qui continue alors que l’atmosphère tout autour est incertaine.

Overground Dancing Cities was shot in Budapest in October 2018, upon an invitation from Gábor Pintér of Parallel Art Foundation, which is busy with enlivening collaborations between dance and cinema and creating international cooperation projects. In close collaboration with ten dancers/choreographers we went through the city by day and by night to choose together places where each artist improvised a short and spontaneous dance. This short-film came together improvisation after improvisation, and found a common thread in the sounds of the city which compose the soundtrack of the film. This work came to life in a context of great concern for the the arts sector and the political future of the country. Overground is a portrait of a city by those who are its creative force and a snapshot at a given moment, taken while the general atmosphere is uncertain.
